AI Visibility Platforms: The 2026 Buyer's Guide

By Vijay VasuUpdated October 28, 202610 min read

An AI visibility platform shows whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews name your brand when buyers ask about your category. One distinction matters more than any feature list. Trackers show you where AI names you. Agent platforms also write, earn and fix what is missing, with a person approving each change. This guide compares ten platforms on public facts, checked October 11 and October 28, 2026. Indexable is our own product and is marked as such.

Definition

What is an AI visibility platform?

An AI visibility platform is software that runs a fixed set of buyer questions through AI assistants on a schedule and records the answers. It reports how often your brand is named, how often your pages are cited, how answers describe you, and which competitors appear instead. Some platforms stop there. Others also act on what they find.

Two words come up on every vendor site, so here is what they mean. Named (or mentioned) means the answer uses your brand name. Cited means the answer links to one of your pages as a source. A brand can be named without being cited, and cited without being named. Good platforms report the two separately.

The market splits into two groups:

  • Trackers. They measure and report. Most also recommend fixes. Your team makes the changes. Examples on this page: Otterly.ai, Peec AI, ZipTie, Semrush AI Visibility, Amplitude AI Visibility.
  • Agent platforms. They measure, then their agents draft, publish or deploy changes after a person approves. Examples on this page: Profound, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI (Enterprise), Nightwatch (in part) and Indexable, our own platform.

The channel is large enough to deserve a line in the marketing report. ChatGPT has 1.2 billion weekly users (OpenAI, 2026). 68% of U.S. Google searches ended without a click in early 2026 (SparkToro, 2026). If the answer does not name you, you may never get the visit.

Method

How we evaluated them

We compared every platform, ours included, on five criteria using each vendor's own website: engines covered, prompt limits on the entry plan, what the product does after it measures, whether a price is published, and enterprise fit. We did not run paid trials. This is not a paid placement. Where a vendor's site does not show a capability, we describe what it does show rather than guess.

The criteria in full:

  1. Engines covered. Seven major engines, or only one or two. Each engine reads different sources, so visibility differs across them.
  2. Prompt limits. How many buyer questions the entry plan tracks, and how often.
  3. What it does after measuring. Reports, recommends, drafts for approval, or publishes approved changes.
  4. Published price. A number on the pricing page, or a demo request.
  5. Enterprise fit. Seats, projects, countries, and who owns the result.

Evidence dates. Every vendor fact was checked on October 11, 2026, with a dated copy kept. Prices for Peec AI, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, Otterly.ai, Semrush and ZipTie, and the Profound trial terms, were checked again on October 28, 2026. Each fact below carries the date it was last confirmed. Vendors change prices often, so confirm on their sites before you buy.

The Table

How do the leading AI visibility platforms compare? (2026 table)

Ten platforms, side by side, on the five criteria above. Entry plans range from $29 a month to custom enterprise quotes. Five of the ten now act on their findings through agents or deployed changes; the other five hand your team a list. The table shows the facts; the sections after it show how to choose.

Citations

Which platforms track AI citations at the URL level?

Most platforms on this page record which of your URLs an AI answer cites, not only whether your brand was named. Otterly.ai lists "every cited URL", Peec AI measures visibility, position, sentiment and citations, and ZipTie reports how often you are named and cited across many checks, never a position (all checked Oct 11, 2026).

Before you buy, ask three questions:

  • Does it log the URLs each answer cites, separately from brand mentions, per prompt and per engine?
  • Can you export the cited URLs, so your content team can see which pages work?
  • Does it alert you when a citation is lost or a competitor overtakes you?

A mention tells you the model knows your name. A citation tells you which page it read. For the difference in full, see AI mention vs citation, and for how to calculate citation rate, our AI search metrics playbook.

Picks

Which AI visibility platform should you choose? Picks by situation

Choose on one question: when the platform finds a gap, who closes it? If your team has the hands to act on a list, a tracker is enough and costs far less. If findings die in the backlog, pick a platform whose agents ship approved changes. Five situations cover most buyers.

You only need to know your number

Choose Otterly.ai or Peec AI. Otterly.ai starts at $29 a month and tracks four engines on every plan (checked Oct 28, 2026). Peec AI starts at $95 a month with unlimited users (checked Oct 28, 2026). Both recommend fixes and leave the work to your team. Either one is a better fit than an agent platform if nobody will act on the findings.

You want answers captured from the real consumer apps

Choose ZipTie. It captures each prompt from the live consumer products rather than a model API, covers seven engines, and charges $0.01 per check (checked Oct 11 and Oct 28, 2026). Expect to ship the fixes yourself.

You already pay for a suite

If your team works in Semrush, the $99 a month AI Visibility toolkit adds 25 tracked prompts next to your SEO data (checked Oct 28, 2026). If your team works in Amplitude, AI Visibility is included in every plan (checked Oct 11, 2026). Add a suite module only if the team already lives in that suite; the coverage is narrower than a dedicated platform.

You run a large in-house marketing team

Profound is the strongest choice for large in-house teams: up to nine answer engines on Enterprise, Agent Analytics for AI-sourced traffic, and agents that draft and publish through your CMS after approval (checked Oct 11 and Oct 28, 2026). AthenaHQ makes more sense if you want 11 models and a content optimization agent at a published $295 a month (checked Oct 28, 2026).

You are an enterprise team that wants the fixes made, not only reported

Indexable, our own platform, fits here. It measures how often AI names and cites you, then a team of AI SEO agents writes the content, fixes the technical and schema issues, and works on the third-party mentions AI engines read. Your team approves what ships. It is the right choice when the gap between the dashboard and the fix is the problem. If you want measurement that is independent of the team doing the work, run a tracker alongside it.

Disclosure

Where does Indexable fall short, and who should not buy it?

Indexable falls short on track record and breadth. It is a young platform with no G2 or Gartner Peer Insights reviews yet. Far fewer independent sites link to it than to the established vendors on this page. It covers search only, not paid media or social. It is enterprise software, priced well above a $29 a month dashboard, because it does the work as well as the measurement.

Do not buy Indexable if:

  • You only need to know your number. A tracker is faster to start and costs far less.
  • You want a toolset your own people drive. Indexable's agents do the work; your team approves it.
  • You need paid media or social alongside search. Profound's platform covers content, social and PR; Indexable does not.
  • You have no internal owner who can approve what the agents ship each week. The approval step is not optional.
  • You want measurement that is fully independent of the team doing the work. Keep a separate tracker for that.
Cost

What do AI visibility platforms cost?

Published self-serve plans start at $29 a month (Otterly.ai Lite) and mostly run under $500 a month. Entry plans run from $29 to $295. Mid tiers run from about $189 to $495. Enterprise plans at Profound, Peec AI, Otterly.ai, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and Semrush are quoted individually. Prices checked October 28, 2026, except where the table says otherwise.

Price moves with four things: the prompts you track, the engines you cover, the seats, projects or domains included, and whether the software also acts on what it finds. Agent platforms cost more than trackers because they do more of the work. Indexable is priced as an enterprise platform, per domain per month.

The full price table, plan by plan, is on what AI visibility platforms cost. For the cost of a whole AI search program, see the AI search cost section of our enterprise SEO pricing guide.

Reporting

How do you put the result in front of the board?

Report one page: how often AI names your brand on a fixed list of buyer questions, which of your pages it cites, and your organic share for the same questions, this quarter against last. Whatever platform you buy, rebuild its dashboard into that page. Our one-page AI search board report gives you the template, and the AI search metrics playbook shows how to calculate each number.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI visibility tool in 2026?

It depends on who closes the gaps. For large in-house marketing teams, Profound. For small teams that want to start fast, Otterly.ai. For marketing teams that want published pricing, Peec AI. For GEO depth, AthenaHQ. For answers captured from the live consumer apps, ZipTie. For enterprise teams that want one platform to measure and ship the SEO and GEO work, Indexable, our own product, with your team approving each change.

What is the difference between an AI visibility tool and an AI SEO agent?

An AI visibility tool measures whether AI engines name and cite you. An AI SEO agent changes the pages and sources those engines read. Many products now do some of both. Test any vendor with one question from our SEO Autonomy Ladder: when the platform finds a problem, who fixes it?

What are the best GEO tools in 2026?

GEO tools and AI visibility platforms are the same category under two names. Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the work of getting named and cited in AI answers, and the platforms in the table above are the tools that measure and, in some cases, do that work. Use the picks by situation above to choose.

How accurate are AI visibility tools?

They produce estimates, not exact counts, because AI answers vary from run to run. Accuracy depends on method: how many times each prompt is run, whether answers come from the consumer apps or a model API, whether location and web search are recorded, and how the tool matches your brand name. Ask each vendor how it samples, and spot-check a few prompts by hand.

Can I track AI visibility for free?

Yes, by hand. Run your top 20 category questions through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini once a month and record mentions and cited URLs in a spreadsheet. It costs nothing but takes two to four hours a month, and one run per prompt will not smooth out the variation. Several vendors also offer free trials or limited free plans.

Which AI engines should a visibility platform cover?

At minimum ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini, because each retrieves from different sources. Add Google AI Mode, Copilot and Claude as your buyers use them. Ask how fast a vendor adds a new engine and whether each added engine costs extra; on several plans it does.
